The following is a response to Dum's call for emails describing worlds. The rest of these planets will be appearing on http://www.thedodd.com/ at some point in the future.
It is blatantly and heavily inspired by the area I live and work in, but is not intended to be an accurate description of it.
I.E. it is intended as a parody so please don't sue me.

[Presenting the most blatant reality leak ever....]

Osmaston

Its an ex industrial worlds abandoned when the resources from near by worlds ran low and manufacturing became cheaper else where. Recently SLA subsid Royces announced that the last remaining factory on the planet will be closed in the next few months. This has thrown the planet into a downward spiral as most locals expect the planet to "go to hell" shortly after its closure.

There are rumors that SLA plan to turn it into a war world to test the cutting edge equipment that the planet used to make. Many of the locals are quietly equipping themselves with illegal weapons 'aquired' from the factory [These thefts could act as a plot hook to use the world]

Most of the remaining inhabitants are the people considered too unimportant to Royces to relocate to the new factories, or not having the money to relocate themselves. This has made it a hot bed for subversive activity. However being a small place and far removed from any where important SLA is not bothering to spend resources on 'saving' the place. -Which the locals say is another indication that they are planning on war world.

Because of these attitudes SLA - and indeed any authority figure- are view with distrust and disdain by the local populations. Operatives arriving and throwing their weight around are unlikely to last long, and the local shiver forces never leave their own HQ. Instead the place is 'protected' by small gang like patrols called Neighbourhood Watch which have certain defined areas. Recently these groups have gains control of the CCTV and mobile patrol systems and as a result are now less obvious on the streets than they used to be.

There are 3 main subversive factions:

Though SS and Barts have a long distrust of each other due to some early clash, an uneasy peace exists between the 3 groups, and they have each carved out there own loyal communities despite the overlapping territories. In cases of external threat the groups are capable of pulling together to fight it off, however with out this they bicker and snipe at each other.

Each of these groups operate in very similar ways.

At the moment these groups offer a front of being beneficial to the local population and claim humanitarian aims. How this will change in the future is unclear, but the phrase "world domination" has been used by those high up in PATCH.

There is much uncertainty over what is going to happen when the factory close. This could result in wide spred violence, but weather SLA bothers to respond to this at all remains to be seen.

I could go on, but like I said, its much like home....
