The Tynes Complex connection

Another of BFR's major selling points is its affiliation with the Tynes Complex, and its coverage of the Complex Killers. Obviously, all SLA broadcasts of Complex killer fights are told only from the perspective of the SLA Killer - after all, it wouldn't do to have a SLA commentator extolling the virtues of a DarkNight Killer like Mr Midnight on SLA TV.

However, to many of the residents of Downtown, fan support for the Complex Killers, especially the big names such as Video Nasty, Mr Midnight, The Perfectionist and Burn, runs high. The Downtown fans cry out for 'unbiased' commentary of the matches featuring their favourites; transmissions from BFR provide it.

Whenever high-profile Complex Killers are involved in important televised matches, BFR always transmits a simultaneous broadcast of 'unbiased' commentary, allowing fans in Downtown to mute their TV, turn up their KnapStar Sat-Lite Radio Exchange, a watch the match while listening to the BFR commentary team.

BFR, like Channel Resistance, also offer 'sponsorships' to up and coming Complex Killers, their logo always featuring their transmission frequency, spreading the word of the stations existence through SLA's own TV network.

Try as they might, SLA and Station Analysis has never managed to pinpoint or interrupt a single BFR match commentary; in fact, it is rumoured that BFR actually have a fully operational radio studio located somewhere within the Tynes Complex which is used exclusively for fight coverage. Thread, of course, denies this vigorously.

One thing for sure is that BFR and the Tynes Complex Killers feed each other; BFR match commentaries paint a positive picture of the Complex Killers to the everyday citizens of Downtown, improving their popularity; in return, many Complex Killers have a great affection for BFR, and have agreed to do guest appearances on BFR shows, and promote Bad Fiction to their fans.

In no better way is this relationship embodied than in Bad Fictions very own Complex Killer and DJ, Vox Pop. In an attempt to discredit BFR, SLA Killers have attempted to eliminate Vox Pop backstage in a variety of ways; only to find Mr Midnight, Burn, Bloody Valentine or Fox Glove breathing down their necks. Because of his relatively low Rep, SLA's 'Big Guns' are forced to sit on the sidelines and wait for Vox to reach their level before challenging him, relying on young and up and coming SLA CK's to get the job done. Inevitably, when those young Killers do face off with Vox, they find him well trained, toting the best equipment BFR can provide, and given half a dozen tactical and strategic tips by the other Complex Killers in the back.

The relationship between BFR and the Tynes Complex shows no sign of friction; between them, Complex Killers and the station itself are reaching new heights of popularity in Downtown.

Bad Fiction Personalities

Albus Joiner

Joiner is a former SIC Executive turned head of DarkNight's 'Radio Truth', and now at the age of 66 is the Chief Controller of Bad Fiction Radio. The driving force behind the transformation from a laughable propaganda broadcast to the cultural phenomenon it is now, there is no doubt that Joiner has a true flair for entertainment.

Personally, Joiner is perhaps not a happy as he would have been had he fulfilled his potential with SIC; but his rampant Humanist bigotry ensured that he made enemies at SIC, who impeded his promotion and ultimately drove him into the arms of DarkNight. However, he is as content as DarkNight can make him in Downtown, and his pleasure at seeing the success of BFR as a tool against his hated former employers more than makes up for the lack of creature comforts he could have enjoyed as an employee of SLA.

While an old man now, Joiner still maintains direct control of BFR; nowadays, through a small staff of trained DN recruiters and converts. Joiner lives and operates from his home in Downtown, issuing orders to his staff for the recruitment of new 'DJs', purchase of up-to-date music from the Black Market (usually organised through the Soft Company subsidiary KnapStar), and organising details of any special programming for the station.

Albus himself lives practically under the noses of SLA itself, in a fairly non-descript housing block in Downtown. He has no combat training, and only a single firearm in his home; a squad of SHIVERS could easily take him into custody should his identity be discovered. However, Joiner knows he probably won't be in charge of BFR for much longer, and has already begun to make arrangements for his successors to take over. Joiner sees BFR as his legacy, a final 'fuck you' to the company he's grown to despise, and wants to ensure nothing will interfere with the running of BFR once he's gone.

Vox Pop

Vox Pop is BFR's resident Contract Circuit expert; mainly because, as already stated, he is a member of the Circuit himself. Vox is a trained DarkNight Interceptor and Espionage Agent, though nothing is ever made of that by the station or by himself; in public, he is the flagship persona of Downtowns rebel radio.

Vox's 'Complex Thoughts' BFR show is extremely popular; being, as it is, an insiders scoop on the backstage workings of the Downtown circuit. For the fans, it's a chance to get 'behind the scenes' of the Contract Circuit; for the Killers themselves, it's a chance to catch up on all the rumours and scuttlebutt taking place backstage. In fact, many SLA Killers will take pains to be in Downtown at certain times, just to catch Vox's show, though none would ever admit it.

When fighting, Vox has a flashy but straight-ahead style, his black market armour (a custom built hybrid of PP10, PP12, and 01000.DN Power Armour scavenged together) covered in BFR and KnapStar logos. Vox himself has charisma by the spadeful, and is a good looking, slightly rugged, ultra-cool woman magnet, whose personal charm and Contract experience guarantees him the highest female fan base of all the BFR DJs'.

PlayMisty

PlayMisty is BFR's most controversial DJ; therefore, as you would expect from the citizens of Downtown, its most popular. While her image is relatively unknown (after all, she /is/ a prolific Serial Killer; and as a result, unwilling to advertise her appearance), her silky soft sultry tones have fuelled the wet dreams of Downtown adolescents ever since she took to the airwaves.

PlayMisty's show has an incredibly high sexual content; in essence, its nothing less than pornography; Misty often allegedly having sex while transmitting - which, while the content tends to be repetitive, makes for compelling listening for the young Downtown male demographic.

Misty also occasionally quite beautifully describes her latest victim, always a stunningly attractive Human female, sometimes to warn them of her 'affection' (though she never mentions the victims by name), or sometimes after the fact, almost as an addendum to the SLA reports of yet another of her killings. This combination of raw sex and mindless violence gives PlayMisty the consistently highest listenership of all the DJ's on BFR.

Descriptions of Misty, as stated, are vague, and commonly contradictory; Some reports have described her as a tall, willowy blonde human female with a smile but attractive figure; others describe her as almost the opposite, a short, dumpy brunette with bad skin problems. Obviously one of these descriptions is erroneous, because they can't be the same person...can they?

Next Bit.
