Sleeping Child

The rain sheeted against the window of the apartment, the rattling noise seemingly calming the baby she cradled close to her body.

She watched how the rain ran down the panes of glass, creating strange, swirling, glipses of the city laid out before her.

Her husband came into the bedroom and stood behind her, his arm lightly touching her shoulder. She turned to him and gave him their daughter, sleeping soundly.

She bent over and picked up her flintlock and SCL card from the bed.

Her husband looked at her, his brilliantly white eyes and hair a remarkable contrast to the dark scars around their child's eyes.

"Be careful darling."

She walked towards the door to their apartment and turned to him.

'I always am. See you later.'
