Strange Love (Part 1)

By Adam "dUm" Page

This party was good. And Dagar liked parties that were good.

He glided through the crowd assembled in the hospitality suite, catching short bits of conversations: "Did you hear that..", "Hows your..", "Guess who I saw.."

He noticed some friends he knew from before the White and went to talk to them. He still found it amusing that people were scared of him, and that he could distract ebons by simply looking at them.

Dagar found their conversation lacking and headed towards the bar, eager to see whether the rumours of a necanthropes ability to embue limitless amounts of alcohol were true. Especially when the alcohol was been paid for by Mr Slayer.

He was unsurprised to feel a presence at his side while he waited to be served, and knew, from her aura, that it was Splinter. He had never encountered a necanthrope with such a sharp, prickly and almost sensous taste and he always enjoyed being near the new necanthrope.

He bought them both a drink and he was about to make himself comfortable at the bar, when Splinter asked him if he wanted to dance. It was one of the Brothers of Death's new songs, Father Prussia if he wasn't mistaken. The song reminded him of something he had heard in the White but he wasn't sure what.

As they danced, he saw Daniel O'Crow enter the crowd. He tried to wave but Splinter had his hands in hers, trying some new dance move she saw in the Pit she had said. Oh well, i'll have the chance to talk to him later, Dagar thought.

The song ended and he was heading over to the bar again, when Splinter tugged his arm.

"What's up. My company not good enough for you? I'm hungry, want some food from the buffet?"

Dagar had to admit that his stomach was empty and he let Splinter lead him to the long tables where plates of cheese and cocktail sausages were arranged.

He glanced over to the bar, wanting another drink, and he saw Daniel get up to leave. He was going to go over when he saw the look Stryder was giving him and Splinter.

What was with Stryder anyway, he thought. Stryder had argued long and hard that Immagin should be replaced by Splinter. And then, in the 3 weeks she'd been with the squad, he'd not even spoken to her once, other than to give her an order.

Maybe he was regretting forcing her change, or maybe he didn't like what she had become. Dagar was sure that accident had altered the form that she had taken in the White.

Stryder was still giving him an evil look, so he leant over Splinter and said.

"This place is too stuffy, and we both know what Slayer's going to announce. Wanna go get some real food?"

Splinter accepted almost immediately, and they left the building, and caught a taxi into Downtown, to an excellent Fish and Chip shop Dagar knew of called Rarry Hamsden's.

The meal went fine and they decided to walk the short distance back to the squads apartment in Upper Downtown. Surprisingly, the streets were not crowded and those that were walking gave them a wide berth.

Splinter giggled. "They really do fear us don't they?"
