creation of Science Friction material

The creation of Science Friction material is a costly and difficult skill to learn. It is also highly regulated and monitored by Dark Lament and the Preceptor Teeth. Ebons knowing and using this skill must be registered with the Dept. Ebb and are subject to periodic random checks hat they are not abusing their knowledge. Dark Lament hold unbreakable patents on all Science Friction equipment, and an Ebon may be able to make a case for constructing his own Flintlock and using it in the heat of battle, but making Science Friction equipment and then giving or worse, selling it to others will swiftly lead to the issuing of an Extermination Warrant.

The second drawback to creating Science Friction materials is the heavy Flux cost of formulating matter from energy. Science Friction engineers, craftsmen and construction workers have vast batteries of collected Flux to draw upon when working in officially sanctioned Science Friction factories, and this makes the high product output possible. It is unlikely that a lone Ebon, even one possessing th necessary skills, could construct a Deathsuit without having numerous Flux Gems and equipment to draw upon. The Flux demands would simply be too great.

All Science Friction items are of permanent duration, unless otherwise specified.

Free Ability:
Clean and maintain Science Friction equipment.
1 - Congeal 1:
Make Science Friction. 1 FLUX per gram material. The material is equal parts fleshy and bony, until Rank 2 is known, then the composition may be chosen. The material created lacks tensile strength or hardness, and cannot be used for industrial of combat purposes (GMs decision).
2 - Craft 1:
Shape Science Friction. 1 FLUX per kg shaped/ 1 FLUX per Rank of opposed ability known. The Ebon may shape previously summoned material into crude shapes. At this stage of knowledge, fine detail is impossible. It is easier to shape unformatted material than it is to change those items bonded with a user. To shape a bonded item (Deathsuit, Flintlock etc.) the Ebon must succeed in an opposed Formulae roll (similar to an opposed STR roll). The victim may also spend FLUX on a point per point basis to resist the changes.
3 - Craft 2:
Make Small Items. At this level of mastery, small items of jewelry or decoration may be made. Items can not hold a sharp edge, nor may they be used for combat purposes, but a skilled craftsman could make a Science Frition dining set, or a ring, or bracelet. Remember that the item will not appear metallic, it will stil clearly be Science Friction. 10 FLUX per cubic centimetre of item.
4 - Congeal 2:
Club. At this stage the Ebon has learnt how to impart density and strength to his items. Finely sharp edges are still impossible to maintain, but a solid club of material, complete with lumps and spikes can be made. The cost is 20 FLUX for a 1 handed club, + 10 FLUX for a 2 handed club. The base damage code is DMG 2 (3 for 2-H), PEN -1, AD 0. Each of these stats can be increased at a cost of 5 FLUX per point increase.
5 - Craft 3:
Blade. Finally the Ebon has discovered how to generate a surface that will maintain a sharp edge. At the cost of 30 FLUX the Ebon may make a 1 handed knife, with a damage code of DMG 1, PEN 0, AD 0. For an additional 10 FLUX, the Ebon may make a 2 handed sword with a code of DMG 2, PEN 0, AD 1. As with the clubs, each stat may be increased at a cost of 5 FLUX per point increase.
6 - Congeal 3:
Pineal Stim. At ths stage the Ebon knows how to take the first steps towards crafting items saleable to the Ebb using Operative. At a cost of 30 FLUX per dose, the Ebon may distill the strange green liquid of Pineal Stim from raw energy.
7 - Craft 4:
Illumination Gem. The Ebon may mould energy and Science Friction into a multi-faceted Illumination Gem at the cost of 40 FLUX.
8 - Craft 5:
Jade Probe May be summoned into existence at a cost of 50 FLUX.
9 - Congeal 5:
Distracter May be shaped at a cost of 60 FLUX.
10 - Craft 6:
Burn Flux Gem. The Ebon is beginning to understand the complexities of storing Flux inside objects. At a cost of 10 FLUX per Flux capacity, the Ebon may create an exquisite Burn Gem. The gem functions as a normal Burn Flux Gem once created.
11 - Congeal 6:
Pathfinder The more complex Ebb quipment is now within the reach of the Ebon, and a Pathfinder may be brough tinto being at a cost of 70 FLUX.
12 - Craft 7:
Focus. The fine detail required for telekinesis is now understood, the Focus may be made for a cost of 80 FLUX.
13 - Congeal 7:
Vector Box. The complexities of distance channeled through matter are unravelled. The creation of a Vector Box costs 90 FLUX.
14 - Craft 8:
Flintlock. Enhancing and focusing destructive energies is a difficult process. The Flintlock is an exquisite personification of the Ebon's ability, and costs 100 FLUX.
15 - Congeal 8:
Thermal Gauge. From the simple-yet-complex Flintlock to the multi-purpose Thermal Gauge, the Ebon can now make both. The cost for a Thermal Guage is 120 FLUX.
16 - Congeal 9:
Ebb Medikit. For a cost of 150 FLUX, the Ebon may call into being not just the outer casing of the kit, but also the delicate equipment and consumables inside. Once this level of knowledge is attained, the Ebon may make replacement consumables for the kit by using the first 5 ranks of Science Friction creation.
17 - Craft 9:
Deathsuit. The pinnacle of personal Science Friction equipment, the layers of delicate glyphs bonded with complex matrices of fleshy material may now be summoned into being with long and exhausting equations. A Deathsuit may be made for a cost of 200 FLUX.
18 - Craft 10:
Eternal Flux Gem. Now the Ebon understands how to craft equipment so flawless it is able to draw Flux energies from the universe surrounding it. An Eternal Flux Gem may be crafted at a cost of 50 Flux per point of FLUX capacity of Gem. Once made, the Gem follows the rules for all Eternal FLux Gems.
19 - Congeal 10:
Foldship Components. By combining all the skills learned to this point, the Ebon understands how to construct materials for a foldship that are light yet dense, durable yet malleable, able to withstand the rigors of space and able to chanel Flux in delicate and artistic ways. The cost for this skill is 100 FLUX per kg of the component. Note that foldships are made from thousands of components varying in weight from 1 kg to 10,000 kg. Foldship construction is costly and time consuming. Once made, the components must be transported into position and assembled by skiled engineers.
20 - Mastery 1:
Design Science Friction Equipment. The Ebon finally understands the underlying principles behind the Science Friction formulae, and may create works of art or war on his own. This skill is largely goverened by the GM, and the player should discuss the size and abilities of the item to be made, but it won't be cheap. The GM has final say on if it is possible and how much it will cost. The peculiarities of being able to design equipment coming at the end of a list of making equipment is covered by D-NOTICE.
