Meny: Day One

Flavor:

During the running of this set piece try to keep in mind the feelings that you got from an experience that was big, new, and wonderful and was akin to being at summer camp on the first day, the first day of University, or the first day of boot camp, a first day of the rest of your life feeling.

Resource:

Mort Sourcebook pages 108 - 113

Mechanics:

Have the players generate characters exactly like they would for a normal game of Sla Industries. I believe that Meny is set up to make sure that the character meets the minimum requirements to perform there duties in the package that they have picked.

I also award 1 XP for each skill that is used successfully. To be used in the advancement of the skill only. This award is completely at the GM’s discretion. And any player that disrupts the game due to this may be awarded a Time Out.

Set Piece:

On arriving at the Dome (by way of Maglev, Shuttle, Fold, Boat) students are mustered out in a special section of the station. The administration of Meny has instituted a new policy, the Racial Equality Study Group Program (RESGP). A RESGP is a cross section of the employee base and will contain at least one example of every race and at least one example of the biogenetic races. This allows a starting group of players that have no knowledge of the game to step into the WOP and learn as they go about the setting. It also offers the GM the ability to round out the team as they see fit.

For every 3 RESGP there will be 1 Sla Industries Instructor. For some reason in my game Clan Frothers gravitate to Instructor positions probably due to personal experience with my own Frother err I mean Father. I would suggest using Sla Industries Instructor Samuel McGregor and for an example of this character you may want to watch Full Metal Jacket. Think Master Gunnery Sergeant HARTMAN only with a soft spot for the group. http://www.krug.org/scripts/fullmetal.html

S.I.I. McGregor jog the party from the station to The Tank dorms with all the stuff that they had packed and due to the party being in exemplary form and one of the players having Luck they got there pick of the rooms. The best examples are documented here: http://www.facilities.ohiou.edu/housing/floor_plans/south/hoover1.htm The worst would be open bunk house stile barracks as shown in Full Metal Jacket. In the best example the 3 RESGP would be in one wing of the dorm.

Plot Hooks:

Role-play classes, after hour’s activities, inter-party animosity, inter-RESGP interactions. Several ideas are given in the resource material.

Extended Plot:

1. Set the group down and have them draw paper out of a hat, on the paper put a N or an Y (I made them all N’s because I am evil) have all the players draw paper with the express instructions not to share what they have got. After they digest this information explain to them that one of the RESGP is a Dark Night subversive. The group that I ran this for actual ate the paper. o.O

2. Later that week Dark Night attacks the campus during the hand to hand training class with Tek Treck robots. Characters are only allowed low-end armor but will have at hand all the melee weapons normal and powered. S.I.I. McGregor will magically produce a light assault weapon to provide the GM with a fail safe. The 6 RESGP that are at the class should be able to take out the robots with little effort. SHEVERS will show up after 5 min.

3. One of the 3 RESGP is an advanced Vev with a high Disguise skill and a high multiple personality disorder. They are passing themselves off as a Xeno. This can be a “red herring” or the actual DN agent.

4. I have this culminating in a plot that will light up the Dome with DN propaganda on the day of graduation at Meny but this could easily be a 26 episode plot. YMMV
