The pitch is this:
It's the near future. There's a reality show called Contenders. Every series, members of the public who live in a particular town are selected by lottery [and their identification number] to participate. They are followed by camera crews, and are provided with a weapon, a 9mm pistol.
To win, they must be the last surviving Contender.
Then they enter the next series as the reigning champion, in a new set of Contenders.
There are six Contenders in a series. They can buy weapons and armour to supplement the pistol provided by the show. They are followed by a single cameraman, who is outfitted with a bulletproof vest. The reigning champion is provided with a driver. The Contenders do pieces to camera in a WWF style challenging each other. The Contenders are granted limited immunity from the law, in that they can kill each other, and carry weaponry around with them. Anyone who is _not_ a Contender who kills a Contender is subject to the full weight of the law. Contenders may not leave the area in which the series takes place. If they attempt to do so, they will be chased, and returned, by specialist operatives [refered to as "our SWAT units" employed by the show. "Contenders are advised to distance themselves from family and friends for the duration of the series as their lives may be put in danger". Contenders are told that they have become Contenders on camera, by masked operatives of the producers. They are handed their guns at this time. The site for a series is a small town.[though anywhere large enough to have a High School of it's own would do]
The goal of the producers is to capture as many gory deaths as possible on screen. Where needed, they will provide reconstructions, using actors. The producers want one survivor per series, and will do whatever it takes to ensure this. They lie, all the time, to increase drama and tension.
Contenders: Weeknights on Channel X?
I rented it from Global Video this week, so it should be easy to find. It's called "Series 7: The Contenders", and it's doubtless also out on video.
There are a variety of BPN hooks in there, no? Though, were an Op to get called up, things could get very different very quickly.
Of course, if everyone knows about the film already I'll just have to hastily relurk, or something.
