Denise Blahm (aka Kyttn)

Some days it just doesn’t pay to get out of bed.

I mean, honestly. There are days when I miss being a civ. But being a shiver pays better. Unless you have days like today.

Woke up late to find that cute little number I picked up at the club last night was chew-yer-arm-off ugly this morning. Not a bad dancer though. Ran for the Gauss and just missed it so I managed to be three hours late to work. And to top it all off, the Lieutenant decided that since I could be late, he could assign our squad to Sleeper duty. Again. Spoiled SOB. Wouldn’t know a real job if it came up and bit him in the arse. Like to see him pull three sleepers in 5 months.

The other guys were expecting the worst already after hearing the Lieut yelling, so when I got out, most of them were already getting into their armor. Drew straws for sleeping times, and got the last set…top bunk. Yep, my luck was still holding.

Fairly quiet all in all. Took care of some minor disruptions and a few carrien, but other than that quiet. Too quiet. Almost like something out there’s waitin’ for us…

Sergeant David Shonessy paused in his writing for a moment to think. As he contemplated the half-blank page before him, the ceiling of the APC above the bunks peeled back to reveal a spiderlike being with an almost Ebon face. Before David could even reach for his Browbeater, it had snatched him and disappeared into the night sky.

Quickly, crazily, they careened from one building to the next, the thing moving him over the Cannibal Sector wall and deep into the heart of CS1. It attached him to a web-like structure between two buildings and grinned at him with a mouthful of teeth that couldn’t possibly fit in its head. When it finally spoke, it was the sound of bones rattling in the wind.

“Some days, it just doesn’t pay to chew through the leather straps. And some nights, dear Sergeant, it most definitely does.”
