Mystery Vacations, Inc.

MVI is a travel company based on the simple premises that people enjoy vacations with a little…excitement to them. They have various packages available, and have their customers sign waivers to ensure the company and its subsidiaries are not involved in any wrongful-death lawsuits or property damage claims.

They’re based in Mort’s suburbia, Sector 153A, in a neat little Science Friction-esque building that looks rather out of place amid its neighbors. When a customer comes in, after a discreet credit check of course, they are run through a battery of tests (“We wouldn’t want someone to have a heart attack while hunting wraithen on Polo, now would we?”) to test their physical, mental, and emotional endurance. Once this is done, it takes approximately 2 hours, the customers are sent on their way, with more paperwork and the instructions to have an empty suitcase sitting by their bedroom door.

The company representatives can come at any time and at any guise to “kidnap” their clients from their mundane lives and begin them on their vacation. Disguises that have been used in the past have been SLA agents and squads, Monarch police, prostitutes, Skin-traders, Shivers, Contract Killers, and even celebrity impersonators of Deity himself! None of these guises have anything to do with the vacation itself; it just adds another layer of mystery onto the package

The clients are sent on a foldship to any one of twenty places that their paperwork and tests suggest they would be suited for or ultimately desire. One of the company’s latest success stories is that of a New Parisian couple who was tired of the decadence and ease of their lives and were on the verge of a divorce. As a last ditch effort they came to MVI who discovered that both had grown up as members of extremely successful Contract Killer families who had ensured that they never wanted for anything or saw fighting of any sort beyond the teevee. MVI. The pair were taken from a local charity ball at gunpoint and dropped into a mini “boot camp” where they trained for nearly a month to learn practical applications of fighting and weaponry, as well as how to live without the little luxuries they had become accustomed to. The next step was to drop them at Charlie’s point for three weeks time with a small commando squad. They returned happy, alive, and more content with each other than they’d been in years. Total cost for this vacation? 2,500,000 credits.

Understandably, as each vacation is custom-tailored to the clients, they are not cheap, and the advertising is strictly done by word of mouth to selected Uptown or off-world clientele. The proprietors are Moonlit and Violet, twin Ebons and retired I&I personnel. Their father had suggested the idea to them, and they spent their entire twenty-odd year career with SLA saving up for this business. Befitting to their reclusive personas, this is strictly an “invitation only” style company. The air of exclusivity it creates leaves people in the WoP craving more. Since their quiet opening in 891, the Twins have sent a mere 25 couples a year to destinations exotic, fantastic, and unusual.

It is only in the last year that they have even sponsored an Op. This is a young brainwaster by the name of Slash, and the Twins have provided him with several decals for his trench coat and four of the coveted platinum tickets that indicate an MVI vacation package. As their sponsoring operative, of course, he is allowed to choose his destinations and when he goes.

The only downside to this industry is that these vacations are not _exactly_ SLA-sanctioned, and often cause disruptions to the BPNs or jobs when MVI’s representatives take their “victims” away. More and more, the reps are caught on camera, and the local medias are hard put to edit it out under suspected pressure from local sources. But even this appears to be in the process of being slowly forgiven as MVI has donated quite a few credits to local schools, beginning media companies, and Meny itself.

************************

MVI has been under investigation for the last several years as the proprietors have connections that seem to rival any Orienta crime-family. Their ability to cut through red tape and common sense to deposit clients on places like Charlie’s Point, Styx, or even Artery for two to three weeks is most concerning.

The ebons involved had a good twenty-five year run with SLA, showing themselves to be exemplary employees and pillars of the community. Their possible subversion now is puzzling.

Keep this company under close scrutiny.
